The Slovene history of sonnet cycles dates back to lyric cycles at the time of Prešeren's Poems and has continued up to the present. Over the last three decades poets have written modernist sonnets of different degrees of freedom, as well as classical ones, which are used for postmodernist citation or as an attempt to revive a greater poetic idiom. In their sonnet cycles contemporary authors of both sexes and of all generations deal with different themes.
