The subject of my thesis is technological control in the context of a smart city, which I study as one of the layers of the wider planetary technological system. New smart technologies are producing new forms of socialities, new kinds of decision-making processes and governance and are also directing new data flows that flow in different directions. Big data, collected at different layers of the city, and concerning the users in the city, are the foundation of the modern technological system. This technological system exists as a vast structure that produces different forms of knowledge and power in its own image. The city thus acts as an interface for different data flows and as a medium for interactions and communications within the city.
