The syntagm Trieste text illustrates the accumulation of non-alignable, but coexisting and complementary signs that create their own meta-discourse to assign meaning to reality. Boris Kobal's play realises this complex system of signs by introducing a self-ironic and satirical approach to the tragic dramatic concept. The author proceeds from a pattern of commedia all'italiana, which he enriches with additional elements of historical memory, and by using a new language of articulation he creates a modern Slovene Trieste play.
