The bachelor thesis investigates the issues related to the design of sun protection. The design work begins with a research and analytical phase, which includes a review of shade structures, the technologies and materials used, safety and dimensional regulations. The next phase in the process of designing a shade structure involved summarizing the synthesis, design principles, and objectives that the bachelor thesis aims to achieve.
The design problem addressed in the thesis arose from handling the parasol. The supporting structure often gets entangled when closing the parasol, leading to breakage or deformation during the leaning process.
The result of the design bachelor thesis is a parasol with a central pillar, featuring a 4m x 4m canopy composed of four panels of acrylic fabric. The fabric is tensioned between the raising poles of the parasol. Upon closing, the torsion spring on the pole winds up a double-winged sail. The structural elements of the parasol are made of polished stainless steel and aluminum.
