The diploma thesis presents road traffic and its impact on sustainable development. The environmental impacts of traffic are presented, such as greenhouse gas emissions, land use, noise, social and other negative effects of traffic. In the following, sustainable development is presented, which is very important for future generations. Long-term goals in the field of transport are described, which include climate change and the improvement of the transport system. The smart city, which is part of sustainable development, received the most attention in this thesis.
The increase in the volume of traffic leads to the fact that the problem of negative impacts on the environment is becoming more and more important. Therefore, further development must be sustainable development. Cities must strive to become as smart as possible and introduce as many smart solutions as possible, thereby enabling residents to have a high quality of life. Digital solutions are one of the tools that have proven to be the most effective for improving cities. When reviewing the literature, I noticed that larger cities have more developed smart solutions, and in Slovenia, Ljubljana has the largest share of developed smart solutions.
