In my thesis, I used comparative and interpretative-analytical methods to present two contemporary Slovenian novels and one contemporary foreign novel. I analysed the novels Filio ni doma by Berta Bojetu, Angel pozabe by Maja Haderlap and Francoski testament by Andreï Makine. To make the analysis easier to understand, I first explained the contemporary Slovenian novel and the literary figure in the contemporary Slovenian novel. Next, I presented the autobiographies of the writers and the selected novels, describing their origins and main points of focus, and then I focused on the main topic of my thesis, namely the character of the grandmother. In this chapter, I used the comparative method to compare the grandmothers in all three novels and tried to identify their common features and differences. In the last chapter, I outlined the main characteristics of the novels, focusing on the type of narrator, the setting, the language and style, and the symbolism in the novels.
