Abstract

Title:Content of the Physical Education Curriculum and the Interests of Primary School Students and Teachers
Abstract:
The master's thesis titled "Content of the Curriculum for Physical Education and Students' and Teachers' Interests" aimed to explore whether there are discrepancies in the connection between the content of the curriculum for physical education (2011) and the interests of students and teachers. In the theoretical part, we described what a curriculum is, how it is structured, and how it is approved. Additionally, we outlined the composition of the currently valid curriculum for physical education (2011) and its contents. We also defined what an interest is and why sports are a crucial factor in individual development within schools. In the empirical part, we employed a quantitative research approach. The sample consisted of 138 students attending 4th and 5th grades in various schools and 109 teachers (classroom teachers, physical education instructors) teaching sports at the elementary level across Slovenia. Data were collected through two different survey questionnaires. The purpose of the master's thesis was to determine which content areas in the currently valid curriculum for physical education (2011) students show a greater interest in and which ones they show less interest in. Furthermore, we were interested in understanding how competent teachers feel in teaching specific content. Through this thesis and research, we aim to encourage teachers to participate in training related to content in which they do not feel competent. Additionally, we sought to ascertain whether the experts involved in composing the sports curriculum have approached the interests of both students and teachers. The results revealed that the experts responsible for crafting the curriculum for physical education have closely aligned with the interests of both students and teachers.
