The bachelor's thesis deals with the condition and composition of the population of municipality Vrhnika in its current extent. The main data source are the results of population censuses between 1870 and 2021, when the last census was carried out in Slovenia. We emphasise the developement of population size and changes in its sexual composition, as the remaining demographic characteristics are difficult to compare during such time period. The first part of the thesis examines the implementation of population censuses in our area and shares an overview of Vrhnika and surrounding areas' historical developement, which is strongly related to demographic processes. The second part are analysis and results followed by an interpretation. The results of settlements and municipality as a whole are considered seperately. The population of Vrhnika municipality grew the most during the industrialisation period after The Second World War. Today the population continues to grow at the expense of immigration due to suburbanisation. There were no significant differences between shares of men and women in the municipality's total population. However, the sexual structure of the population was in some settlements more diverse.
