Lake Velenje, Lake Škale and Lake Družmirje, collectively called the Lakes of Šalek, are located in the Šalek Valley in North Slovenia and offer a variety of tourist and recreational activities. The purpose of the master's thesis was to provide an analysis and a proposed redesign of the information boards of themed walking path around the Lakes of Šalek. The path features 15 information boards (two of which are introduction boards), where the visitors can find information on the formation and characteristics of the lakes as well as some species of birds, fish, dragonflies, butterflies and mammals in this habitat. The aims of the master's thesis were the analysis of the elements on the signs and informations boards of walking path in the Šalek Valley, the creation of the font for the board titles, the elaboration of proposals for a more appropriate solution for the boards of the themed walking path around the Lakes of Šalek and the analysis and determination of the effectiveness of the solutions in comparison with the existing ones.
In the theoretical part of the thesis, we first presented a classification of hiking trails and the themed walking path around the Lakes of Šalek. This was followed by the basic principles of corporate visual identity, its elements and 3D modelling. In the experimental part we presented the whole board redesign process, during which we created an original font for the board titles. With the new boards we wanted to address as broad an age group as possible. The final product was a series of 14 boards, which, in addition to all existing content, also feature diverse additional information segments, tasks and other activities for primary school students. In creating the boards, we focused on content that enables active involvement of visitors. We discussed the designed boards and their movable elements in detail using 3D models. This was followed by a presentation and evaluation of the survey conducted after the completion of the design process. The results showed that the respondents liked the redesigned board series a lot better, that they would visit it and also recommend the themed walking path with the new board design to others.
