Throughout education and practice, where I got to know the field of foster care in more detail, I repeatedly got the feeling that the voice of foster parents is often not heard enough. With this aim in mind, I decided to research the needs and wishes of foster parents with regard to foster care training throughout my thesis.
In the theoretical part, I focused on families and state measures to protect the interests of the child. Then I dedicated a word to the definition of foster care, where I focused on the legal and social work aspects of foster care. Throughout my thesis, I focused mainly on foster parents, especially foster mothers, which is why I dedicated one of the chapters to them. One of the main topics is related to education for foster parents and the role of social work centres. At the end of the theoretical work, I briefly present knowledge that can support foster parents in the implementation of foster care activities.
Through conversations with foster parents and professional workers, I gained an insight into the needs of foster parents for additional education, in which area they need this additional education the most, and what role does the social work centre play. I also got an opinion from the professional workers on how educational programs support foster parents with the implementation of foster care activities.
