The objective of this assignment was to obtain the material properties of a silicone seal with the help of a pressure test. In this manner the parameters of a material model are obtained that can be used in further simulations of sealing elements made of this material. Since ordinary calibration tools do not provide adequate simulation results, the material parameters need to be obtained through reverse engineering. The pressure test was simulated in the Ansys software tool and the material parameters of the hyperelastic material model were varied using the reverse engineering program optiSLang until we obtained the results in the simulation that matched the measurement. The obtained material constants were then applied to simulate the sealing element in a real application.
