In the thesis with the title Employee awareness of the importance of non-pharmacological care for people with dementia in Nursing home Dr. Jožeta Potrca Poljcane, I researched the awereness of employee of non-pharmacological care. I was interested in how well employees know non-pharmacological forms of help, or if they use non-pharmaceuticals when working with people with dementia, whether they are even motivated to use non-pharmacological forms of help and why they do not use non-pharmacological forms of help to a greater extent.
In the theoretical part, I presented the key topics of the diploma thesis: non-pharmacological care, non-pharmacological care for people with dementia, forms of non-pharmacological care, where I focused on music, dance, aromatherapy and massage. At the same time, I presented characteristics of homes for the elderly and main characteristics of dementia.
The most important findings of my research are, that a large percentage of employees in the home know the non-pharmacological form of help, discussed in the thesis. The most well-know non-pharmacological form of help is music. There is a connection between the level of education and the knowledge of non-pharmacological forms of help. More than half of the employees use non-pharmacological forms of help in their work with people with dementia, at the same time, they are also motivated to use it. The respondents attributed the main reason for not using non-pharmacological forms of help to a greater extent to a lack of staff.
