In the diploma thesis, we have focused on the preparation of cellulose fibres and fibres from the invasive plant species, the graphic design of the calendar and postcards, and printing preparation. The whole planning process was based on a sustainable and ecological design process. The main goal of the thesis was to create useful graphic products from handmade paper. The theoretical part contains an overview of the paper history, industrial and manual production of paper products procedures, and a description of natural fibres involved in the process. The processes of graphic design, landscape photography, as well as operation and use of UV ink-jet printer were described. Through research and analysis of the domestic and non-domestic market we have presented some useful products, made from handmade paper. Practical part of the assignment gives an insight into the papermaking process, the correct preparation of cellulose fibres and fibres from the invasive plant species acacia and the design of graphic elements. The procedure from idea and drafts to final product is presented. During planning and handmade papermaking, we carefully prepared and analyzed fibres, which have provided a quality printing surface. Graphic designs of calendar and postcards have been developed using professional vector graphic and photo editing software Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Indesign. Our handmade paper was aligned on a thermal fixing plate and printed on a UV ink-jet printer. The results of this diploma thesis are sustainable graphic designs made from handmade paper – calendar and postcards, which are both aesthetically appealing and environmentally friendly.
