Nowadays, the optimization of logistics and transport is one of the key factors for the operation of the society. Reducing the weight of transport vehicles in order to increase the amount of cargo they can carry, reduce fuel consumption and consequently the carbon footprint is a trend followed by all truck manufacturers. We have presented the selection and complexity of manufacturing various polymer composite pistons for air spring, that could replace the existing metal piston. We presented the influence on the price and weight of the product, as well as the influence of the geometry and volume of the air spring piston on the static and dynamic characteristics of the air spring. The new air spring with a one-piece polymer composite piston has slightly better characteristics than the existing air spring. The spring with the new piston has a weight reduced by 15.4% compared to the existing air spring.
