This master's thesis focuses on solving the challenges of producing many different products
in small quantities. Regarding the current market situation, such production is essential.
Short delivery times, felxibility and suppliers' response time are critical for good business.
The company in question was challenged with producing small quantities with long
preparation times. This thesis presents different situations and simulations, which help the
company to achieve high flexibility and low production costs. Swift tool changes,
rearranging work orders and hyperproduction were the tools used, to find the optimal balance
of flexibility and cost. We established that rearranging of work orders is crucial to maximize
production efficinecy and that hyperproduction, to make stock, is sensible only in very
specific cases.
