The paper presents the linguistic work of three compatriots from the Lower Sava Valley - the first grammarian Adam Bohorič (1520-1598) from Brestanica, the translator of the Bible Jurij Dalmatin (1547-1789) from Krško and the editor of the unique pan-Slovene Dictionary Maks Pleteršnik (1840-1923) from Pišece - through the eyes of the most important Slovene linguist of the second half of the 20th century, academician Jože Toporišič from Mostec near Brežice. He discussed the first Slovene grammar in its entirety or according to the thematically determined language elements, categories or facts; he also translated it into Slovene. Like Dalmatin's translation of the Bible and Pleteršnik's Slovene-German dictionary, the grammar was a valuable source of linguistic data for earlier periods at all language levels.
