At the beginning of the work, the advantages and disadvantages of different heating methods are presented in comparison with wood pellet heating. The customer owns a number of wood pellet mills and is not satisfied with the existing machines for various reasons. He has therefore decided to implement a new control system. The main objective of this work is to present a solution that meets the customer's requirements.
The following sections outline the general process of pellet production and specifically identify the production stages that need to be managed by the developed control system. The customer's pellet press, its predefined electrical components and the customer's specific requirements for the final operation of the system are presented.
The thesis then describes the process of creating the complete control system. Initial calculations are carried out to determine the required capabilities of the components and the required wiring sizes for their interconnection. Each of the elements used, their characteristics and the justification for their role in the system are presented. This is followed by a description of the cabinet assembly and the interconnection of all the control system components within it. This is followed by a description of the initial commissioning of the system and the preparations required to ensure safe operation. A comprehensive set of adjustments required to prepare the system for pellet pressing is also explained. The final step in the description of the control system development is the parameter tuning of the PID controller.
After the development of the control system and its commissioning, several ideas for system improvements are proposed. This part of the thesis also includes an overview of the identified shortcomings that were discovered during the period after the completion of the control system, mostly during the writing of the thesis itself.
