Increasing concern for the preservation of the environment and the protection of human health should encourage printing companies to pay more attention to reducing negative impacts of their operations on the environment and human health. For this purpose, the printing companies can introduce the environmental management system ISO 14001 or EMAS, and the occupation health and safety management system ISO 45001. They can also demonstrate environmental awareness by using more environmentally friendly materials and more environmentally friendly products.
The purpose of the thesis was to investigate the environmental awareness of twenty selected Slovene printing companies by examining the introduction of the ISO 14001, EMAS and ISO 45001 systems, as well as the use of environmentally friendly papers.
It was found that only 25% of the selected printing companies obtained the ISO 14001 system and only one printing company also obtained the EMAS system, and none of the selected companies obtained the ISO 45001 certificate. 50% of the selected printing companies use printing papers of the FSC mark for sustainable forestry, and 15%. from them also papers with the PEFC mark. No printing company in Slovenia has obtained the EU environmental label for its printed paper products.
