Abstract

Title:Work-life balance for parents: challenges and actions
Abstract:
Parents are one of the categories of workers who are additionally insured during their employment. There are several articles in the ZDR-1 that relate to parents' rights, and in several places the ZDR-1 regulates parents' rights more favorably and provides them with minimum standards of the rights they must be guaranteed. The question of how to successfully reconcile family life and work life arises in many areas in today's modern society. This issue is faced by professionals active in various fields, but also by employers who are increasingly aware that happy employees lead an organization/company to successful performance and are increasingly aware that it is important to have happy staff in the company. How to reconcile these two spheres in life is also an increasingly common question among individuals/employees/workers, as the fast pace of life and the lengthening of working hours have led to the very problem of separating these two spheres. Individuals are also increasingly looking for ways to successfully reconcile these two aspects of life. This is a unique challenge that is not only faced in Slovenia but is also being faced everywhere in the European Union and elsewhere in the world, as can be seen in the adoption of the relevant legislation that is the basis for putting it into practice. It is important for the state and employers to realize that it is they, too, who contribute to reconciling work and family life, because it is they who put into practice the measures which then actually make reconciliation possible. From this point of view, it is primarily the state that, by introducing certain measures into legislation, dictates to employers what measures and opportunities they must provide for their employees who are also parents.
