The master's thesis describes the development of the communication part of the input-output module for IE.x family of smart meters. More specifically, it involves the development of a new transmitting and receiving parts of the M-Bus communication, as well as a DC-DC step up converter. The first chapter introduces the electricity meter and why we need different communications technologies in it. The second chapter describes the M-Bus communication, its operation and the description of the subordinate device. The third chapter we present switching converters, their design, work regimes and components used in them. In the next chapter the planning process of the switching converter and the transmitting and receiving part of the communication is described. Here we also described simulations of the receiving part in LTspice, which helped us in choosing suitable components for the printed circuit board. Finally, we presented the results of the printed circuit testing.
