The master´s thesis covers the process of designing a timber lookout tower. Tower is located at the top of Javornik hill above Črni Vrh and is 29,8 m tall. The load-bearing vertical structure of the building consists of four outer and four inner timber columns. All columns have a rectangular cross – section and are connected with timber crossbars in the levels of each floor. Horizontal stability of the building is ensured with bracing system with steel tension rods, which is installed around the outer perimeter of the tower. The tower has thirteen intermediate floors with platform, which connects staircase and lead to the highest forteenth floor, where is a spacious viewing platform. The load bearing structure of the tower is designed and dimensioned according to Eurocode system and international standard ISO 12494. The master´s thesis systematically presents the design proces of the load bearing structure elements, analysis of actions and environmental influences, the process of dimensioning timber load- bearing elements and their characteristic joints and designing of the reinforced concrete base plate. Analyzes of actions on the construction are divided into permanent and variable actions. In terms of variable actions we also took into account the weight of ice, as this environmental influence has already acurred in this area in the past. The emphasis of the master´s thesis is on the dimensioning of the primary load- bearing elements and the dimensioning of the joints. All tension and stability checks were made with computational program Tower. In the assignment were dimensioned only the elements with maximal internal forces in the relevant load combination. There were also dimensioned the secondary load – bearing elements of the strucutre and the reinforced concrete base plate.
