Abstract
Armenija oz.

Title:Armenian Apostolic Church : Armenian Identity Through the Prism of Christianity
Abstract:
Armenia or The Republic of Armenia is a country in the Caucasus region, bordering Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iran. Its history goes back thousands of years and is marked by suffering, wars and genocides. In its history, it was often ruled by foreign authorities, e.g. Byzantines, Persians, Russians, etc. But despite this, Armenia preserves its culture. Part of Armenian culture and history is also Christianity, which has a special place for Armenians. Armenia is the first country to adopt Christianity as the state religion. In addition, Armenia even created a new branch of Christianity and its own church, i.e. the Armenian Apostolic Church. The role of Armenian Christianity is not only to spread Christian teachings and morals, but it also has a political role by uniting the entire nation. Therefore, the Armenian identity must also be explored through religion, specifically the Armenian Apostolic Church. In this assignment the issue of Armenian identity is viewed through the prism of Armenian Christianity. The importance of Christianity for the Armenian national identity, from the arrival of Christianity in Armenia, to the Soviet era and the present shall be examined. Here, we highlight the national role of the Armenian Church, which unites and preserves the nation.
