In the current time of the high inflation, requests to redefine the contracted prices as a result of the increase in the the material and service costs are being copped with on a daily basis. For larger projects, the rise in the costs can be quite simply determined by using indices enabling calcution of the differences in the cost of building services. The focus of my Diploma work is on the methodology currently used to calculate the indices by the Slovenian Chamber of Building and Industry of Building Materials. The methodology complies with the Directives of the International Organisation for Co-operation and Development (OECD), Eurostat as well as years of experience of the Axis Building Company. Arguments speaking in favour to use the methodology are given. To assure objectiveness in solving the price-increase issues between contracting parties, it is recommended to use indices for specific types of work, i.e. for typical buildings of simple projects. A method to acquire and recalculate the market prices, the current use of indices and a proposal for their future use are given. For the methodology to be efficient, it is important to assure involvement of electrical and mechanical engineering as well as trade companies and large industries.
