Introduction: Due to deviations in speech, motor and social-emotional areas, adults with a moderate intellectual disability experience limited participation in leisure activities. They often witness occupational deprivation, as they cannot engage in activities that are necessary and meaningful to them. Participation in leisure activities has shown positive effects such as skill development, increased satisfaction and overall better quality of life. Despite the positive effect, the mentioned area is often not given enough attention in occupational therapy practice. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis was to investigate the involvement of adults with moderate intellectual disabilities living in institutional care in leisure activities. The goal was to gain insight into the perception and forms of spending leisure activities. Methods: The research sample included 21 adults with moderate mental disability, who are included in institutional forms of protection care. A quantitative research method was used. The data was obtained by means of a questionnaire designed for the purpose of this research. Descriptive statistics method was used. Results: The majority of adults with moderate intellectual disability in the Institute perceive leisure activities as relaxation (15 participants), joy and happiness (11 participants). While spending their free time there, the participants state that they feel happy (19 participants) and rate importance as the most important (14 participants). Most of the adults, taking the survey, watch TV (18 participants), listen to music (14 participants), go for a walk (13 participants) and engage in sports activities (12 participants). More than half of the respondents (11 participants) need help from others while performing leisure activities. Discussion and conclusion: Adults with moderate intellectual disability experience a positive feelings towards leisure activities. They give them a high rating of importance and satisfaction. Despite the possitive attitude towards leisure activities, there is still insufficient emphasis on mentioned area. Persons in the life of adults with moderate intellectual disability give priority to the other occupations. Occupational therapy can contribute to increasing orientation towards leisure activities, and provide the necessary support in the implementation of leisure activities. Planned inclusion with an occupational therapy of adults with modearte disabilities can contribute a higher quality of life.
