Thesis presents steps involved in the making of a mirascope. These consists of the programming of CAM programs, making clamping setups, cutting of raw materials on the CNC machining centre Doosan NX 6500 II, all the way to surface treatment - polishing, nickel plating and chrome plating. Characterization of the surfaces is described in the final part of the thesis.
During manufacturing we faced obstacles due to the quality of the mirror surfaces. These were solved with an additional operation of grinding. The end results are satisfactory as the mirascope works as expected, but not well enough to complete the project. Therefore, additional polishing of the mirror surfaces will hopefully help to minimise the roughness and improve the reflectivity of the mirror surfaces.
