The purpose of my thesis was finding a way to increase solubility of a substituted phenanthroline ligand 1,4-dihydrophenanthroline-4-one-3-carboxylic acid (1,4-DPCA). The substance has a useful role in regenerative medicine, but unfortunately it is still underused because of its' low solubility in water. 1,4-DPCA was synthesized and tested for increased solubility in different ionic liquids, especially in ammonium and phosphonium hydroxides. Ionic compound of 1,4-DPCA was prepared with tetrabutylammonium hydroxide, characterised and its' solubility limit determined using a calibration curve.
