This master's thesis builds up on my paper. The paper focused on experiences of parents of
children with autism spectrum disorders, showing what parents go through after suspecting a
diagnosis. My aim was to examine opinions, experiences and stories of parents and people with
autism spectrum disorders as well as their suggestions on how to alleviate challenges they face.
I also studied what a broader public thinks about the suggestions for improvement collected in
the context of the paper, and I identified other needs, ideas and desires of people. A part of the
master's thesis is also a research based on results of a survey conducted in parents of children
with autism spectrum disorders and people with disorders aged above 15 years.
