The master’s thesis consists of two parts, the theoretical and research part. The first part describes the phenomenon burnout, explains the term burnout, lists the causes for burnout, shows the phase process of burnout, describes the current knowledge about burnout in the field of social work, outlines the causes of burnout in the field of social work, lists the types and locations of deficiencies, which negatively influence the employees in centers for social work. Also presented are the possibilities for managing burnout and the preventive measures that the employees in centers can use. At the end of this part, we also discuss the Center for Social work and its role on a national level. The second, empirical part, describes the formulation of the problem, the entire methodology of planning and collection of data, results, discussion, conclusions and suggestion.
I have carried out quantitative research with the help of a previously created SAI questionnaire for burnout from dr. Pšeničny. The data was collected at the Center for Social Work Pomurje, which encompasses the units Center for Social Work Murska Sobota, Ljutomer, Gornja Radgona and Lendava. The questionnaire was filled out by 22 female employees. The employees age varied from 29 to 55 years.
The results of the research show that burnout is present among employees at the Center for Social Work Pomurje. Burnout was detected among 36,4 % of employees, other data shows that work exhaustion is present among 9,1 %, the likely candidates for burnout are present in 13,5 % of samples, 40,9 % of employees are endangered. Three quarters of employees with burnout are in the 1. level of burnout, which according to dr. Pšeničny is the stage of exhaustion. The remaining quarter finds themselves in the 2. level of burnout, which according to dr. Pšeničny is the stage of entrapment. I observed no cases that could be attributed to the 3. or 4. level. The research has shown that younger employees are more prone to burnout. The result of burnout was also more frequent among employees working in the area of ZUPJS rather the other areas at the center for social work.
Based on the collected data and the fact that burnout is present at the Center for Social Work Pomurje it would be advisable to carry out detailed qualitative research with the goal of determining the causes of burnout, preventive and curative strategies of dealing with stress and burnout on an individual and organizational level. National authorities, centers for social work and the Faculty for Social Work should pay more attention to preventive measures for the prevention of burnout and its continued development. We should strengthen the mental health of employees and students, so that they could learn about the intrapersonal characteristics or factors at an early stage, change them and protect themselves from premature burnout or even burnout.
