The aim of the task is to make a control system that includes the use of a programmable
logic controller (PLC) and a frequency converter to control an induction motor. The
control system will enable monitoring of the condition of devices in the system,
changing the parameters of engine operation, switching between manual and automatic
mode and detecting possible faults in the system.
In the first part, the diploma thesis describes all the components of the system made on
the demonstration panel. It is presented how to establish a connection between a
Siemens PLC and an ABB frequency converter. The connection is established via the
PROFIBUS and PROFINET protocols, which are among the most commonly used
communication protocols in the industry.
The following is an example of using a frequency converter and operating the system via
the Siemens SIMATIC WinCC V7 demonstration system. The control system allows the
operator to communicate with the machine and thus control the process. In addition, it
also stores and processes data and reports system errors. The diploma thesis shows
how to import variables from the controller into the Siemens SIMATIC WinCC V7 control
system, how to color the icon according to the values of system variables (system
status), open device management windows and display alarms.
I think that the task was successful, because the system meets the set operating
requirements, which were stated in section 2.1. In the sixth chapter we can see that the
icons are colored correctly according to the state of the system and that in case of error
the visual system informs us.
The task is suitable for beginners to learn in automation, as it describes the construction
of a control system that includes the use of a PLC and a frequency converter to control
an induction motor.
