The aim of the thesis is to research the capability of the existing honing process in the company, and to compare it with an improved process called progressive honing. The essential difference in the improved process is that the manufacturing process is carried out with different types of honing tools and an improved clamping system. The thesis presents the theoretical foundations of honing, important characteristics on which we performed the analysis of process capabilities, and measuring equipment needed to evaluate the results.
Because of the tolerance size of the diameter on the hole is only a few thousandths of a millimeter, it is very important that analyses are performed with the air gauge, which tell us whether the gauge are capable of measuring such a small tolerance or not. For the analysis, I used the Minitab software, which has all the necessary analysis tools used in this thesis. Based on the results between the existing and the improved process, I made suggestions for further work.
