In the thesis, I aim to analyze the presence of violence in Ivan Cankar's Slovenian modern novel Hiša Marije Pomočnice and Filio ni doma by Berta Bojetu, comparing the latter with the world literature novel The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. In my research of the narrative, I am observing and describing the literary persona as a victim or perpetrator of violence, the type of narrator, the spatial settings, and narrative empathy.
