The purpose of my Master thesis was to find a suitable synthetic route for the preparation of coordination compounds of ruthenium with selected scorpionate ligands, to investigate the coordination chemistry of scorpionate ligands by varying the synthesis conditions and to obtain the products in the purest, crystalline form and in the highest possible yield. In the framework of my Master thesis I synthesised two different scorpionate ligands: sodium tris(methimazole)hydroborate and tris(1-methyl-imidazole-2-ylthio)methane, as well as six ruthenium complexes. As a precursor I used the organoruthenium precursor [(η6-p-cymene)RuCl2]2 or its bromine analogue. In the synthesis of the complexes I used different ligands: bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)acetic acid, sodium tris(methimazole)hydroborate and tris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)hydroborate. The individual synthesised products were purified by column chromatography and analyzed by NMR, IR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, as appropriate. I also studied the crystalline products by X-ray structural analysis.
