Poetry lessons in primary and secondary schools are limited to interpretation of single poems by chosen poets – in primary school mainly youth literature, especially the poetry of Slovene authors, and in secondary schools students interpret classic Slovene and world literature. This means that students do not acquire knowledge of the whole of the poet’s oeuvre. In this article I present project work in teaching poetry in secondary school based on reading a collection of poems and engaging in the event »I give you a poem«.
