Natural and other disasters endanger the safety of people and property, so it is important that society has a functioning and well-organized system of protection against natural and other disasters. In the Republic of Slovenia, in addition to civilian structures, the Slovenian Armed Forces are also included in this system. The intervention of the Slovenian Armed Forces is determined by law and also represents part of the tasks that the Slovenian Armed Forces are obliged to perform according to its own military doctrine and offer assistance to civilian structures both with manpower i.e. members as well as with the multi-purpose equipment it owns. In this diploma thesis we analyzed the operations of the Slovenian Armed Forces in the system of protection and rescue in the event of natural and other disasters. In doing so, we focused on helicopter rescue. We were interested in why in Slovenia the Slovenian Armed Forces is the structure that performs helicopter rescue of civilians, and not the civilian structure as it is regulated in most other countries.
