The diploma thesis deals with work as a value and in theoretical part defines values and their classification, the concept of work and its placement in the individual's life, the ethics and aesthetics of work, the benefits of work and the quality of work life and the centrality of work. For the empirical part of the diploma thesis, data from existing longitudinal surveys of the Slovenian Public Opinion program was collected, thereby evaluating changes in the perception of work as a value in different periods before and after Slovenia's independence: socialism, transition from socialism to capitalism, Slovenia's integration into the EU as well as during economic and financial crisis. I also specifically sought an answer to the research question on how work as a value and social inequality are related, analysing data from Slovenian Public Opinion surveys as subjective indicators and income inequality and poverty rate as objective indicators.
