The protection and rescue system in Slovenia is classified as one of the three subsystems in the National security system. It is designed to operate organisationally and functionally on local, regional and national level. Part of this are also non-governmental organisations and voluntary associations. They represent an essential part of the system, as it is largely made up of volunteers. The largest members are volunteer firefighters, who regularly sacrifice their life, while their legal regulation or regulation of their status (especially benefits) is very poorly regulated. Therefore the beginning of diploma will be primarily about research of the protection and rescue system, role and position of non-governmental organisations and the organisation of voluntary firefighting. Towards the end, the research will also focus on the problems volunteer firefighters face and how to solve them. Some steps towards their status improvement have already been taken, there have been many (empty) promises, but there is also still a lot of room for improvement.
