The purpose of the master’s thesis was to examine and analyse print marketing materials of the Savijsko-Šaleška region and to examine the current print materials of the Municipality of Šmartno ob Paki. Based on the findings, we designed and made a brochure as well as a folded pamphlet for promoting the Municipality of Šmartno ob Paki and the local tourist offer.
In the theoretical part, we described types of print marketing materials, with the emphasis on brochures and folded pamphlets. We listed the design features of printed materials, from colour description and typography to page breaks, formats, and graphic prepress. Furthermore, we included a detailed description of the procedures for soft binding and technological operations in graphic finishing. This is followed by the analysis of the print marketing materials in the Savinjsko-Šaleška region. We primarily focused on design features, print quality, and finishing procedures, while we were also interested in the connection between printed marketing materials of individual municipalities.
In the practical part, we described the Municipality of Šmartno of Paki, listed main tourist sights, activities on offer, and traditional events. Before designing the brochure and folded pamphlet, we analysed the current print marketing materials. The main objective of the master’s thesis was to design print marketing materials for the Municipality of Šmartno ob Paki. We designed a 36-page long brochure on the tourist offer of the municipality (tourist sights, activities, culinary offer and accommodation, local products) and a pamphlet describing the municipality and the tourist information centre. We defined a colour for each of the presented categories, designed an icon, and chose a Slovenian folk proverb that we believe best represents the category. This was meant to symbolize the importance of preserving the tradition in the municipality.
In addition to the descriptions of the designed print marketing materials, the results include proposed designs for other marketing materials, such as t-shirt, pen, and notepad. In the course of our analysis, we established that the style of individual municipalities of the Savinjsko-Šaleška region’s print marketing materials varies significantly; therefore, one of the objectives was also to create guidelines for a uniform design.
Results also include recommendations regarding the format, use of colours, and typography as well as recommendations for print and finishing procedures.
