Few years back, a new method for facility projecting, which has proved to be very efficient, has surfaced on the market. It is known as Building Information Modelling or BIM. This method has enabled civil engineering to simplify and expedite construction as we know it. Because of its versatile usefulness, we are, to this day, still developing various tools and programmes which could utilise the information gathered from BIM and facilitate our work.
In this Bachelor thesis, we will try to thoroughly present one of the possible applications of the new BIM-model programme. We will try to determine how the programme could be used in terms of augmented reality and what are the advantages of the latter. We will explain what augmented reality actually means, describe its historical development, and present everything that needed be done to achieve such a high level of technological development while also examining its beginnings. Because of the wide use of augmented reality and its versatility, we will describe the many possible ways of implementing it into engineering. The focus will mostly be on using it for the purposes of building construction, specifically for the conduction of building projects themselves. In this part we will also describe the Dalux programme and its use of augmented reality. With the help of a model, which was created by this programme, we are given the possibility to validate the usefulness of augmented reality in civil engineering ourselves.
