Slovenia is facing a demographic aging of the population, which brings many challenges; the COVID-19 epidemic only further demonstrated the need to regulate the field of long-term care. In my master's thesis I therefore studied the current situation in the field of social care programs and services in the municipality of Moravče and studied the needs and interests of citizens of Moravče who need and will need support and assistance in the future due to age, disability and illness. In the theoretical part, I presented in depth the following concepts: age and aging, needs in old age, social work with the elderly, deinstitutionalization of long-term care and forms of assistance intended for the elderly in Slovenia. In the formulation of the problem, I presented important information about the municipality of Moravče - I studied the demographic picture of the local environment, its geographical characteristics, economic situation, I presented the network of public services and prepared a map of programs for older people. In qualitative research I included retired elderly citizens of the Municipality of Moravče and representatives of three different organizations who are dealing with the elderly in the municipality.
Among others the results of the research showed that the disadvantage of existing organizations is the lack of networking and sharing information about people who need help as well as the services available. Existing services do not carry out public opinion polls to obtain feedback on the quality of life and current needs of older people. One of the opportunities of the municipality is the aging index, which is rising slower than in the whole of Slovenia. This allows them to start informing citizens about the services available and to introduce new assistance and support programs that will focus primarily on community care. Another advantage is the developed social activity. As an example of good practice, everyone points to the project Prostofer. The interviewed old citizens mostly expressed satisfaction with the quality of life in the municipality. They also made various suggestions.
