The aim of the master thesis was to design a women's clothing collection based on clowns, their clothes, patterns and different silhouettes, and to present the collection through a fashion story. The master thesis covers the design and implementation of the KLoWns womenswear collection.
Nowadays, when talking about clothes and styles, people often imply that something is »clownish«, whether in silhouette, cut, colour combinations or patterns. So in my thesis I wanted to focus and prove that every garment can be »clownish« in its own way, and yet still be fashionable and wearable for everyday life, despite its clownish bizarreness. Every clown has a unique personality, and of course that includes a unique and distinctive costume. The costume he wears helps him to experience his personality even more, so it comes out even more, both emotionally and visually. So it all comes together in a kind of holistic picture. But the argument that clothing definitively shapes a clown can undoubtedly be translated into everyday fashion. Like a clown, each person's choice of wardrobe refines him or her and through it presents him or herself to others as an individual, independent and creative being.
The theoretical part of the Master's thesis introduces the famous Italian director Fererico Fellini. His filmography and distinctive directorial features. His mockumentary, The Clowns, is described in more detail. The master's thesis also covers the meaning of clowns or the presence of clown clothes in contemporary fashion. It features designers and their collections that are or have been inspired by the character of the clown.
The practical part involves designing and realising the collection. The collection, called KLoWns, includes nine female silhouettes. The collection is presented: concept with starting point, techniques, materials, colour palette and patterns, target group, sketches and technical sketches of the individual garments. The practical part of the assignment involves the concept, display and realisation of a womenswear collection.
The final result of the work is therefore a women's pret-a-porter collection of fashionable clothes called KLOWNS and featured in the final fashion story.
