In this thesis, we describe and evaluate several algorithms for road traffic simulation. The best algorithm successfully simulates the majority of road traffic in Slovenia. The simulator uses traffic counter data and allows changing many parameters. The main inputs to the algorithm are the number of cars at a given time at each traffic counter, the locations of the counters and the road links between the traffic counters. The output of the algorithm is a list of counters with the most cars for which the simulator cannot determine the origin or final destination. The results of the simulator can be used to improve the transport infrastructure. For example, to identify areas that are poorly covered by traffic counters. In particular, the simulator allows traffic flows to be monitored and managed. For example, determining traffic flows around tourist destinations.
