In the midst of societal, political and economic changes, women all around the world are becoming more and more economically independent. As much as this change is considered as a positive one, its effects on society and societal institutions such as marriage, partnership and family life are not unambiguous. Nowadays it is evident that the traditional model of family life - a combination of male breadwinner and female homemaker norm is disappearing. Although, in most post-industrial societies we are witnessing and slowly accepting this rapid cultural shift, where women are competing in the financial race alongside men, we are also witnessing new forms of misogyny and male protest against gender equality which can lead toward violence.
