Communicative competence is fundamental goal of Slovene classes and is understood as an important key competence in any classroom and in everyday life. In the last years the concept of competence has got a great importance in the field of education. Discussion about communicative competence will be presented in diffrent aspects. We will present several definitions of the communicative ability of various Slovenian and foreign authors. We will also define it in terms of key competence in the first laguage or mother tongue and list the key components, building blocks of communication skills. By analyzing the learning objectives and recommended activities from the curriculum for high school geography, we will (with Bloom's taxonomy) determine the cognitive difficulty, communication activities and building blocks of communication skills according to the three-level bar of cognitive levels.
In this master's thesis we researched developing communicative ability with analysis of chosen high school's geographic textbooks. We not only analysed curricula for geography, but also geographic textbooks and workbooks. With these, we will determine the presence of communicative ability through the types of tasks and at what level of cognitive complexity the tasks are listed. Analysis showed the presence of second level, according to Bloom’s understanding and application.
