Mangart road is the highest road in Slovenia and is located within the Triglav National Park. The diploma thesis deals with its function, history, characteristics and integration into the transport system of the region. Based on the listed components, road regulation and traffic management in the present and challenges for the future are presented. From the point of view of financial sustainability and environmental acceptability, traffic management on alpine roads is demanding and depends on various factors. The purpose of the diploma work is to give a proposal for the management plan of the Mangart road, which will be in line with the vision and goals of transport and spatial strategic documents. The work includes an overview of the physical and socio-geographical characteristics of the study area, a chronological overview of the condition and specifications of the road, an analysis of transport and spatial strategic documents with emphasis on the vision and goals of sustainable mobility, an overview of possible road management and traffic management scenarios with the concepts of sustainable development and sustainable mobility.
