Video games are becoming more and more present in the everyday life. Consequence of that is also growth in the field of educational video games as they can be one of the best sources of fun and education through gamification.
This work describes the creation of an educational virtual reality (VR) game, using open source software. This style of development (indie game development (indie short for independent)), is likewise becoming more and more popular as it is becoming widely available due to decreasing costs and skill requirements. In addition, there are many tutorials and sample projects available online, helping potential users in reaching their goal.
Theme of the work is centred on ecology with focus on recycling at home with the intent of raising awareness through fun gameplay experiences. Theoretic part encompasses a short history and background of educational video games, VR and common pitfalls of recycling at home while practical part consists of the biggest issues faced during development and a short questionnaire with findings which point towards a successful execution of the project.
Therefore, work as a whole, offers an insight into the production cycle of video game creation, with wealth of information laying in educating future developers on the possibilities of near costless game development.
