When it comes to sustainable development and tackling the effects of climate change, companies are becoming an increasingly important actor. The commitment of organizations to sustainability is increasing. Nevertheless, the domain of corporate sustainability remains criticized due to the business opportunity that companies see in sustainability. The critics argue that their activities are not actively contributing to strong sustainability. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis was to explore the importance of corporate sustainability and get deeper understanding on how companies are evaluating sustainable development. The thesis is supported by a qualitative research for which we have conducted a case study of the selected company. The theory has shown that concepts such as sustainability, sustainable development, corporate sustainability do not have universally accepted definitions, thus scientists are defining corporate sustainability on the dimension of weak-strong sustainability. For the purpose of qualitative research, we therefore used Landrum's model of corporate sustainability stages. The findings of the thesis have raised the question about the sense of strong sustainability, a stage where companies don't pursue growth and consumption but rather decide to nurture the mutually beneficial relationship with nature.
