The diploma work describes the reactions of zinc(II) quinaldinate with pyrrolidine and nitriles, propionitrile or benzonitrile. Under favourable conditions amine reacts with nitrile to amidine. The reactions were carried out in the autoclave at 105 °C, under reflux or at ambient conditions. The reaction system with pyrrolidine and propionitrile afforded: complexes with amine, [Zn(quin)2(pyro)] and [Zn(quin)2(pyro)2], and ionic compound with protonated amidine, pyroPrAmH[Zn(quin)3]. The reaction system with pyrrolidine and benzonitrile afforded: amidine complex, [Zn(quin)2(pyroPhAm)], ionic compound with protonated amidine, pyroPhAmH[Zn(quin)3], and the compound that contains both the amidine complex and [Zn(quin)3]– complex, pyroPhAmH[Zn(quin)3]∙[Zn(quin)2(pyroPhAm)]. Products of some reactions are yet to be characterized.
