The dissertation will focus on Alexander’s conquest of Egypt, crucial to his anti-Persian campaign. Although he did not remain in Egypt for long, his stay there had a strong impact on the entire history of the Mediterranean Basin.
When we consider Alexander's stay in Egypt, we usually think of two major events that marked this period: his visit of Amun's Oracle in the Siwa Oasis and the foundation of the city of Alexandria, the first and most famous among many.
The dissertation will also explore on the relationship between the young Macedonian king and the country, which proclaimed him a liberator and the rightful ruler despite his occupation. The dissertation will also touch upon the consequences of the Macedonian rulership for Egypt.
