The master's thesis in its introduction presents Macedonian from a geneto-, typo-, and sociolinguistic perspective, and with the help of a comparative method, highlights its definitional properties in a diachronic point of view, its typological characteristics within the Balkan sprachbund, and two events of key importance for Macedonian – the publication of the book On Macedonian Matters (orig. Za makedonckite raboti) and the official standardization of the Macedonian language. The body of the thesis aims to outline the concept of the Macedonian etymological dictionary from the macro- and microstructural point of view, to define the content and the structure of the envisaged dictionary, its purpose and role in the social context, and the main organizational aspects of its development. With the help of experimental dictionary articles, an example of the planned Macedonian Etymological Dictionary will be presented, and from the etymological perspective, some characteristics of the Macedonian vocabulary of common nouns will be introduced, which are not described in others etymological dictionaries of Slavic languages. The concept also explicitly emphasizes the need for an etymological dictionary of the Macedonian language, the only Slavic language that has so far lacked the opportunity to etymologically describe its common nouns.
