Multi-challenged families are families that encounter various hardships and complex problems which intertwine and put a strain on the family dynamic. When facing the aforementioned challenges these families usually require the assistance of experts who, through various programmes and services, contribute towards the change, preservation, or breakdown of the family as a community. This paper aims to explore in more detail the topic of additional programmes of support and assistance for multi-challenged families at the Center za socialno delo Severna – Primorska (North Primorska Social Work Centre). In connection with the topic of research I want to examine which programmes at the Center za socialno delo Severna – Primorska are available to the aforementioned families, what is the typical cause for the involvement of families into the chosen programme of support and assistance, what forms of support and assistance the involved participants receive, and what degree of participation in the chosen programme is available to the involved participants. The desired data was acquired by means of interviews with both the employees that conduct the chosen programmes and the involved participants. The results show that three programmes of support and assistance for multi-challenged families are conducted at the aforementioned social work centre. The participants are typically involved voluntarily, by the incentive of various services. Reasons for involvement are varied, ranging from hardships of both parents and children to different desires and needs of the family. In the chosen programmes the participants can usually benefit from help with both physical labour, as well as psychosocial help and support, adjusted to suit their needs and desires. Additionally, there are numerous opportunities for participants to help shape the chosen programme, namely because the employees conducting the programme make an effort to listen to and respect the opinions voiced by the families.
